Belarus and Uzbekistan to Strengthen Nuclear Energy Cooperation

Belarus and Uzbekistan are planning to strengthen cooperation in nuclear energy, as reported by the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry following a meeting between Energy Minister Denis Moroz and an UzAtom Agency delegation led by director Azim Akhmedkhadjaev.

The parties discussed potential collaboration in nuclear energy infrastructure development, personnel training, radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management, and the integration of nuclear power plants into the energy grid, The Caspian Post reports citing BelTA.

Denis Moroz noted that Belarus is open to partnerships and is ready to share its best practices. “We welcome Uzbekistan’s decision to join the community of nations using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and to implement its national nuclear program,” said the energy minister. He added that Belarus could also participate in the project to construct a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan if the Uzbek side is interested.

During their visit to Belarus, the UzAtom Agency delegation will tour the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP), where specialists from both countries will identify promising areas of cooperation.

Denis Moroz emphasized that the construction and commissioning of the BelNPP not only ensured the country’s energy security but has also spurred dynamic growth in related sectors: electrification of residential heating systems, development of electric transportation, while also serving as a catalyst for innovative projects in key economic sectors.
