China’s Baibuting Group Powers Up $1.8 Billion Green Energy Project in Uzbekistan

China’s Baibuting Group Co., Ltd. has officially launched a large-scale green energy project in the Akhangaran district of Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region in a major step toward advancing renewable energy in Central Asia.

The initiative, marked by a groundbreaking ceremony this week, is set to become one of the most ambitious clean energy developments in the country, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

According to the Tashkent regional administration, the project represents a total investment of $1.8 billion and will be rolled out in several phases over a three-year period. It will cover an area of 666.2 hectares in the Telyau neighborhood.

In its first phase, the project will see the construction of two solar power units, each generating 240 megawatts (MW), supported by an advanced energy storage system. Subsequent stages will include the installation of wind turbines, expansion of storage infrastructure, and the development of hydropower and biomass facilities-forming a comprehensive and diversified green energy complex.

The project is being executed by Ahangaran New Energy, a foreign enterprise established in July 2024 and listed in Uzbekistan’s Unified State Register of Enterprises and Organizations (EGRPO). The company is fully owned by Hubei Baibuting Energy Technology Co., Ltd., and is led by Zhang Baofu. Its primary focus is on electricity generation and sales.

The development stems from a memorandum of understanding signed in June 2024 between Baibuting Group and the Tashkent regional government. The agreement outlines plans for a hybrid power station that will harness energy from solar, wind, and hydropower sources.

The initial investment for the project’s first phase is expected to reach $200 million, while the total generation capacity is projected to reach 2 gigawatts (GW) once the complex is fully operational.
