Despite Pressure, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Expand Partnership with Russia

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are continuing to expand long-term strategic cooperation with Russia, pushing forward major joint projects despite what Moscow describes as sustained pressure from Western nations.

Speaking in an interview, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said Western countries are using sanctions and political pressure in an attempt to disrupt Moscow’s partnerships in Central Asia, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

However, he stressed that regional allies are choosing a different path.

“They are implementing large-scale, long-term strategic projects with Russia that deliver real economic benefits and strengthen security,” Galuzin noted.

The Russian official said that both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan remain committed to their agreements with Moscow, continuing to build cooperation across key sectors.

He emphasized that these partnerships are rooted in frameworks such as the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Eurasian Economic Union, where member states uphold shared obligations and coordinated policies.

The comments highlight the ongoing geopolitical balancing act in Central Asia, where countries are navigating ties with both Western powers and traditional regional partners.

Despite external pressure, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan appear focused on maintaining stable, long-term cooperation with Russia, particularly in projects aimed at boosting economic growth and regional security.
