From August 11 to 15, 2025, a delegation from the Korea Environment Institute (KEI) visited Uzbekistan to engage in meetings and negotiations aimed at enhancing the country’s environmental impact assessment system and strategic environmental assessment processes.

The visit follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed on March 24, 2025, between the two countries, aimed at enhancing collaboration on environmental issues, The Caspian Post reports per Uzbek media.

Discussions also covered the digitalization of these procedures, the development of environmental monitoring, and ways to increase public involvement in environmental matters.

The exchange of international experience and plans for joint projects in these fields were key points of emphasis throughout the visit.

Notable participants included Dr. Sangyun Lee, Director of the Center for Environmental Assessment Monitoring at KEI, and Sh. Nurullaev, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Scientific Work, and Innovation at the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies (Green University), alongside other specialists.

The delegation’s visit culminated in a symbolic tree-planting ceremony held in the “Ecological Garden” of the State Environmental Expertise Center in the Green University campus, underscoring the strengthening partnership between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea in environmental protection.
