Tashkent Metro to Add 56 New Train Cars by 2026 to Ease Overcrowding

The Tashkent Metro administration has announced plans to expand its fleet with 56 new train cars in 2026.

The initiative aims to reduce train intervals and enhance passenger comfort across the network, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

The announcement comes in response to growing complaints on social media about overcrowded trains. Many passengers have reported long waiting times during peak hours, often having to let several trains pass due to limited space.

Over the past four years, Tashkent metro has purchased 41 new train sets, bringing the total number of trains to 75 - more than double the 2021 level.

In 2026, an additional 56 modern train cars are planned to be procured. This upgrade is expected to refresh the fleet and shorten waiting times for commuters.

Currently, the highest train frequency is on the Chilanzar line, where 28 trains operate during peak hours. The interval between trains on this line has decreased from five minutes in 2021 to 90 seconds, according to the metro administration.

On the Uzbekistan line, train intervals have been reduced from six minutes to three minutes, and on the Yunusabad line, from eleven minutes to four minutes. Following the reopening of the Circular Line, intervals have decreased to nine minutes, a quarter shorter than when it was first launched.
