United States Commends Uzbekistan's Large-Scale Reforms

A solemn event, commemorating Uzbekistan Day, was held at the U.S. Capitol.

This forum is organized jointly with members of the Congressional Uzbekistan Caucus. The Uzbekistan delegation led by Sodiq Safoev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, attended the event, The Caspian Post reports citing UzA.

At the forum, the Uzbekistan delegation provided detailed information about the country’s ongoing reforms in the political, economic, and social spheres, as well as its priority areas of foreign policy and approaches to addressing international and regional security issues. Uzbekistan’s efforts to join the World Trade Organization, the favorable conditions created for investors, and the country’s commitment to the principles of an open market economy were particularly noted.

Members of the U.S. Congress, including Congressman Trent Kelly, Senator Steve Daines, and Congresswoman Carol Miller, as well as heads of the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, leading international companies, and foundations, made presentations at the meeting. They highly appreciated the large-scale reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan and noted that Uzbekistan is the driving force behind positive changes in the region.

Within the framework of the event, the delegation of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan also held a meeting at the U.S. Trade Mission.

Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization, the effectiveness of ongoing reforms, and the deepening of bilateral trade and economic cooperation were discussed during the dialogue. The American side expressed its readiness to develop a strategic partnership with Uzbekistan in this direction.

The participants were informed about major investment projects being implemented in Uzbekistan in collaboration with leading American companies, including a project at the Almalyk copper deposit, for which it is planned to invest $4.5 billion.

Issues of cooperation in the social sphere, investment in human capital, and educational programs, particularly joint projects within the framework of the Young Business Leaders initiative, were also discussed.

The dialogues, interviews that took place during the forum, and their widespread media coverage demonstrated that the event, timed to coincide with Uzbekistan Day, was held at a high level.

The forum will give a new impetus to the development of a strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States.
