Uzbek boxer Jakhongir Zokirov has claimed the silver medal in the super heavyweight division (over 90 kg) at the World Boxing Championships, falling to Kazakh boxer Oybek Oralbay in a tightly contested final.
Zokirov edged the first round 3-2 on the judges’ scorecards and dominated the second round 4-1, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
In the decisive third round, however, Oralbay gained the upper hand, and despite Zokirov’s counterattacks, the judges awarded the victory to the Kazakh boxer, who was crowned world champion.
Uzbekistan’s national team concluded the tournament with a total of 11 medals: six gold, two silver, and three bronze. The team topped the overall medal tally while finishing second in terms of gold medal count.
