President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed comprehensive development plans for the nation’s capital, with a strong focus on enhancing industrial zones, modernizing transport infrastructure, and improving urban livability in response to rapid population growth.
During a high-level presentation, particular attention was given to the ongoing expansion of the “Yangi Avlod” Special Industrial Zone, a strategic hub covering 774 hectares, The Caspian Post informs via Uzbek media.
Currently, 28 projects are being implemented on 268 hectares with a combined investment of $800 million. An additional 30 projects, with investors already identified, will occupy another 300 hectares and bring in $400 million in new capital.
President Mirziyoyev highlighted the zone's potential to attract cutting-edge manufacturing, create new jobs, and foster the production of high value-added goods. He stressed the importance of scaling up industrial capabilities to support sustainable economic growth.
One of the key infrastructure initiatives outlined was the construction of a $288 million multimodal logistics terminal, developed in collaboration with DP World, a leading logistics company based in Dubai. Once completed, the terminal is expected to significantly improve logistics capacity in Tashkent and the surrounding region, streamlining trade operations and facilitating import-export activity.
Urban transport modernization was also a central topic of discussion. Building on the success of the Shota Rustaveli Street redevelopment, authorities plan to expand the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system to ten additional major streets. The initiative aims to ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety, and improve the city’s visual and architectural appeal through the adoption of a unified design code.
In a push to improve quality of life at the neighborhood level, the government will allocate 1 trillion soums from the 2026 local budget. The funds will be directed toward urban beautification, the creation of gastronomic and cultural streets, and the modernization of outdated irrigation systems.
President Mirziyoyev stated that the transformation of Tashkent must result in a city that is modern, livable, and economically vibrant-encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation.
The presentation also included updates on regional development, with a particular focus on Bukhara, where plans are underway to significantly expand tourism infrastructure and improve services for international visitors.
