Uzbek President Hails Islamic Civilization Center as Heritage and Future Hub - VIDEO

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has called the Center of Islamic Civilization a symbol of generations’ aspirations, reflecting Uzbekistan’s millennia-long history, cultural richness, and modern potential.

He noted the initiative, first proposed at the UN General Assembly, has received wide international support, particularly from the Islamic world, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

The project combined domestic and international expertise, creating a large architectural ensemble next to the historic Hazrati Imam complex in a national style.

The center offers a comprehensive exhibition covering the region’s development from the pre-Islamic era to modern times, including the Renaissance and the rise of New Uzbekistan. Over the past year, more than 1,500 new items have been added, including manuscripts, archaeological artifacts, and historic maps, some acquired through international auctions. A highlight is the Quran Hall, featuring one of the oldest copies of the Uthmanic Mushaf alongside rare manuscripts from different periods.

The center houses offices of leading international organizations such as the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Research Centre For Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies, and TÜRKSOY, fostering scientific cooperation. It also hosts the new residence of the Administration of Muslims of Uzbekistan.

President Mirziyoyev stressed that the center will become a key platform for education and research, nurturing the next generation of scholars and thinkers. He urged the creative and academic communities to leverage Uzbekistan’s rich heritage in cultural and scientific projects, promoting the country as a land of peace, knowledge, and humanism.
