A citizen of Uzbekistan has been repatriated from Pakistan after living there illegally for more than two decades.
The woman first traveled to Pakistan in 2005 to marry a local resident, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
However, shortly after their marriage, her husband was involved in a serious road accident that left him disabled. She remained in the country for years, caring for him despite difficult circumstances.
Earlier this year, facing worsening social and financial conditions, she reached out to Uzbekistan’s embassy for assistance. Diplomatic officials intervened and successfully secured the cancellation of an $8,400 fine imposed for her illegal stay.
Following the resolution, the woman was able to return to her homeland, marking the end of a 21-year ordeal abroad.
