President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a videoconference on January 15 dedicated to the work of the Foreign Ministry and Uzbekistan’s diplomatic missions abroad, with a focus on addressing rising freight transportation costs and strengthening economic engagement with European markets.
During the meeting, officials noted that the current geopolitical situation has led to a twofold increase in freight transportation costs to Europe, which has adversely affected the competitiveness of Uzbek exports.
Poland was identified as a key entry point to European markets, and Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Warsaw was instructed to prepare concrete proposals aimed at reducing logistics expenses.
President Mirziyoyev also directed relevant government bodies to hold negotiations with Polish authorities on establishing a dedicated corridor for Uzbek freight carriers at the Brest border crossing. In parallel, ministries were tasked with organizing a meeting of the Uzbekistan-Romania intergovernmental commission to finalize agreements on expanding bilateral economic cooperation. The president underscored the strategic significance of setting up a trading house in Romania’s port city of Constanta and set an objective to double Uzbekistan’s exports to Romania by 2026.
