Uzbekistan is set to receive a new batch of modern Russian-built TEM9 shunting locomotives, with the first machines scheduled to arrive in May as the country moves to strengthen industrial rail logistics.
The advanced locomotives are designed for shunting and freight operations on industrial railway access lines, offering a combination of high power, fuel efficiency and intelligent control systems, The Caspian Post reports via Podrobno.uz.
Another locomotive is expected to join Uzbekistan’s fleet before the end of the year, expanding the country’s industrial transport capabilities.
The TEM9 is equipped with the DG 882L diesel generator, based on the 8DM 21L2 engine produced by the Ural Diesel-Motor Plant. The 14.3-ton system integrates traction equipment, cooling and lubrication systems, along with smart digital controls.
The technology has already proven reliable in heavier TEM14 locomotives used in major industrial projects.
The delivery continues Russia’s long-standing export of railway equipment across Eurasia and beyond. TEM14 locomotives were previously supplied to Kazakhstan, while 2TE25KM mainline locomotives operate in Mongolia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. TEM18DM shunting locomotives are also in service across CIS countries, Eastern Europe, Africa and Cuba.
