Uzbekistan exported goods worth $1.3 billion to Afghanistan between January and November this year, making Afghanistan the country’s third-largest export destination, data from Uzbekistan’s national statistics committee showed, The Caspian Post reports, citing Amu TV.
Russia remained Uzbekistan’s top export market during the period, importing about $4 billion worth of goods, followed by China with $1.9 billion, the committee said.
Uzbekistan’s total exports from January to November amounted to $30.9 billion, while overall foreign trade turnover reached $72.8 billion, up 21.8% from the same period last year. Imports accounted for $41.88 billion of the total, the data showed.
According to the statistics, Afghanistan mainly imports electricity, gas, fuel and some food products from Uzbekistan. In return, Afghanistan exports dried fruit, cotton, agricultural produce and meat to its northern neighbour.
Trade ties between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have expanded in recent years, particularly in the energy and food sectors. Analysts say the latest figures underscore Afghanistan’s growing importance as a regional export market for Tashkent.
