During his recent working trip to Namangan, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed progress on the airport’s renovation.
Transport Minister Ilhom Mahkamov said that Namangan airport is one of the largest in the region and serves as a hub for the Fergana Valley, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.
According to him, the Ministry of Transport is carrying out the reconstruction of the airport in cooperation with “partners” under a public-private partnership model. The new passenger terminal will be able to handle 1,200 people per hour.
“All construction at the airport - from air traffic management to passenger services - meets modern requirements and is being implemented in line with international standards,” Mahkamov said.
He added that once completed, Namangan airport will be transferred to the management of “companies with international experience.”
The president instructed that a multi-level parking facility be built next to the airport, with service points on the first floor, and that public transport routes be established from the city and nearby districts.
Javlonbek Umarhodjaev, chairman of Uzbekistan Airports, announced plans to double the number of aircraft parking stands from the current seven to 14. As part of the renovation, a new air traffic control building will be built, and aviation service infrastructure will be upgraded.
The modernization project is scheduled to be completed by spring 2026.
The new passenger terminal will increase capacity from 400 to 1,200 passengers per hour. Umarhodjaev noted that the current separation of arrival and departure terminals causes inconvenience for travelers, limits transit potential, and reduces available space for commercial facilities.
Mirziyoyev emphasized that the task is not only to expand aviation services but also to develop ancillary services not directly related to aviation.
