Uzbekistan, Japan Unveil $12B Project Plan Across Sectors

Uzbekistan and Japan have formed a new project portfolio worth over $12 billion, following talks between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo.

The portfolio spans key areas of cooperation including energy, industrial decarbonization, transport, IT, healthcare, tourism, agriculture, water resources, and infrastructure projects. A joint investment platform will be established to coordinate and advance all initiatives, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Special focus was given to the launch of a Japan-style special economic zone in Samarkand, expansion of the “One Village - One Product” program, enhancement of interregional trade, and deeper partnership in logistics and transportation.

President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of digital transformation and green energy, noting the potential of Japanese technology and expertise to implement sustainable and innovative projects in Uzbekistan.

Education cooperation was also highlighted, including the creation of Uzbekistan’s first Uzbek-Japanese University in Tashkent, expansion of exchange programs between universities, and initiatives to train highly skilled specialists.
