Uzbekistan Joins UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

Uzbekistan has been elected to the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice for the 2027-2029 term, marking a new step in its engagement with global security and justice initiatives.

The decision was made at the UN headquarters in New York City, where member states confirmed the new composition of the commission, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Established in 1992 in Vienna, the commission brings together 40 member states elected for three-year terms. It plays a key role in developing international standards in criminal justice, coordinating cooperation against transnational crime, corruption, and cybercrime, and organizing UN Congresses on crime prevention.

Uzbekistan will represent the Asia-Pacific group alongside countries such as China, Japan, and Saudi Arabia.

The Uzbek Foreign Ministry said the membership will allow the country to contribute to the development of international legal standards, strengthen global cooperation, and share its experience in domestic reforms.

Uzbekistan intends to actively participate in discussions on improving international cooperation, promoting a more humane criminal justice policy, and enhancing global efforts to prevent crime.
