Uzbekistan and Pakistan have agreed to integrate a transport corridor through China into their bilateral transit trade system, opening a new strategic route for cargo between South and Central Asia.

The agreement is expected to be formalized during the upcoming visit of Uzbekistan's deputy prime minister to Pakistan, The Caspian Post reports via Fergana.news.

Once the protocol is signed, freight will move through Sost Dry Port in northern Pakistan before crossing western China and continuing into Central Asia. The new corridor will allow Pakistan to expand exports to regional markets, including Uzbekistan, while ensuring Uzbekistan retains reliable access to Pakistan's seaports.

The move comes as both countries seek alternatives to traditional transit routes. The once-preferred corridor through Afghanistan has been largely unusable since the Torkham and Chaman border crossings were closed in October 2025.

Meanwhile, the route through Iran has also become less attractive, making the China corridor an increasingly important option for diversifying regional logistics and strengthening trade connectivity.

The planned transit link is expected to boost regional commerce, improve supply chain resilience, and deepen economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan while reinforcing China's role as a key transport bridge between Central and South Asia.
