Uzbekistan’s public mainline rail network transported a total of 79.7 million tons of key cargo from January to September 2025, marking a 4.9 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
During the same period, the country’s railways also carried over 8.1 million passengers, up by 957,200 year-on-year, reflecting growing demand for rail travel across Uzbekistan, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.
Uzbekistan Railways, the state-owned enterprise responsible for both infrastructure and train operations, manages the country’s long-distance freight and passenger services. Established in 1994, the network spans 4,669 km, including 2,446 km of electrified lines, maintaining a near-monopoly on rail transport in the country.
The growth in Uzbekistan’s rail sector follows regional trends in rail logistics, with Kazakhstan exporting over 1 million tons of grain by rail earlier this year.
