Uzbekistan is taking significant steps to strengthen its international partnerships in the fields of standardization and technical regulation, as confirmed during the 88th General Assembly of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), held in India.
As part of the event, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation and the Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE), The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The agreement marks a new stage in bilateral cooperation and aims to align Uzbekistan’s national standards with international benchmarks. It also includes provisions for strengthening institutional collaboration, building expert capacity, and deepening partnerships within global standardization bodies.
The sides also discussed joint efforts to support Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). This includes enhancing institutional resilience and improving the qualifications of technical specialists involved in the country’s quality infrastructure.
In addition, the Uzbek delegation held productive talks with the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee (JISC). Key areas of discussion included future collaboration on technical regulation, attracting grants and technical assistance from JETRO and JICA, adopting innovative technologies, and launching joint pilot projects.
Akmal Jumanazarov, Director of the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation, emphasized the value of learning from Japan’s experience, which he said could significantly contribute to the modernization of Uzbekistan’s standardization system. Atsuko Saruhashi, Deputy Head of JISC, expressed Japan’s continued interest in supporting Uzbekistan’s reform efforts and confirmed readiness to assist in developing quality infrastructure and training professionals.
As a result of these meetings, Uzbekistan secured agreements to expand comprehensive cooperation in all areas related to standardization, setting the stage for deeper integration into the global quality infrastructure system.
