Uzbekistan Steps onto Global Finance Stage with Spain’s Santander CIB Partnership Talks

Uzbekistan is expanding its engagement with global financial institutions, as Uzbek Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade Akram Aliyev has met with Ignacio del Pozo, Executive Director of Spain’s Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (Santander CIB), to discuss opportunities for investment collaboration.

Santander CIB, the investment banking arm of Banco Santander, is a key player in international finance, offering services across more than 20 countries, including major markets in Europe, Latin America, the US, and Asia, The Caspian Post reports per Uzbek media.

Headquartered in Madrid and established in 1985, the firm has become one of Europe’s most influential financial groups.

During the meeting, held at the ministry in Tashkent, the two sides exchanged views on potential financial partnerships, particularly Santander CIB’s involvement in funding Uzbek investment projects across both public (G2G) and private (B2B) sectors.

Santander CIB representatives expressed a high level of interest in Uzbekistan’s investment landscape, noting the country’s steady economic reforms and efforts to create a more transparent and attractive business environment.

Ignacio del Pozo said that such initiatives could serve as effective instruments for strengthening bilateral economic ties between Uzbekistan and Spain, fostering a new wave of strategic, long-term cooperation.
