Uzbekistan Triumphs at 37th International Olympiad in Informatics

The 37th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2025) has concluded in Sucre, Bolivia, where 330 pupils from 84 countries competed, with Uzbekistan’s team earning one silver and one bronze medal.

This success reflects Uzbekistan’s sustained efforts to advance its IT sector through reforms focused on nurturing youth skills in programming and algorithmic thinking, The Caspian Post reports per Uzbek media.

On December 20, 2023, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev led a video conference dedicated to accelerating IT development and digital governance in the country. During this meeting, Uzbekistan was selected to host the IOI in 2026.

In preparation, Uzbek authorities organized a rigorous multi-stage selection process-spanning schools, districts, and regions-to identify 100 top pupils from grades 5 to 8. These pupils underwent specialized training courses conducted by international experts.

The historic silver medal win at IOI, along with the bronze, validates the effectiveness of these targeted initiatives.

At the event’s closing ceremony in Sucre, Uzbekistan was officially handed the hosting rights for IOI 2026, marking a major step forward in the nation’s IT education development and its growing reputation on the global stage.
