Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are taking a new step toward strengthening cultural and scientific cooperation after signing an agreement aimed at preserving and modernizing their archival collections.
Uzarchive, operating under Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Justice, and the Archive of the President of Kazakhstan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand collaboration in archival affairs, research, and digital technologies, The Caspian Post reports via UzA.
The agreement focuses on protecting and promoting national archival collections while making historical records more accessible through the development of electronic archives and modern information systems.
Under the memorandum, the two countries will organize internships, specialist exchanges, advanced training programs, conferences, seminars, and roundtable discussions to share expertise and adopt best practices in archive management.
The partnership is also expected to support joint scholarly research based on archival documents, assisting historians and researchers gain deeper insights into the region’s shared past.
Officials from both countries emphasized the importance of preserving documentary heritage for future generations while embracing digital transformation to improve public access to historical materials.
The agreement further strengthens growing ties between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in cultural, educational, and scientific fields. It follows a recent memorandum signed between the Archive of the President of Kazakhstan and the National Archives of Qatar, highlighting Kazakhstan’s expanding international cooperation in archival preservation and knowledge exchange.
