Uzbekistan Weighs Hosting FIA-Backed International Races

Uzbekistan is accelerating its motorsport ambitions after President Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Mohammed Ben Sulayem and his delegation in Tashkent.

The sides discussed expanding cooperation with the world’s top motorsport authority, focusing on road safety, infrastructure development, and nurturing local talent, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Ben Sulayem praised Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms in sports and youth development. Talks centered on boosting motorsport-from karting to formula series-while enhancing training for Uzbek drivers, engineers, and mechanics through FIA University programs. The possibility of hosting major international events, including a future Formula 1 stage, was also on the table.

At the end of the meeting, Mirziyoyev awarded Ben Sulayem the Dustlik (Friendship) Order for his contribution to advancing motorsport ties. Uzbekistan, an FIA member since 2019, is currently hosting the federation’s General Assembly, with an awards ceremony scheduled for December 12 at Humo Arena.
