Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan has announced that Armenia is set to import wheat exclusively via rail, sourcing supplies from both Kazakhstan and Russia.
The statement was made during a joint session of permanent parliamentary committees while discussing Armenia’s 2026 state budget draft, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
“In this context, two important developments are taking place. I hope that from now on, Armenia will import wheat only by rail, which is economically very efficient, whether from Kazakhstan or Russia. The cost of both Kazakh and Russian wheat significantly decreases when delivered to Armenia by rail,” Papoyan said.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk confirmed that Azerbaijan has agreed to allow the use of its railways for transiting Russian goods to Armenia.
“In this regard, we see very promising progress. Russian Railways, together with regional partners, are currently working out how to organize these shipments efficiently,” he added.
