A new legal battle has emerged in Armenia’s political arena after opposition leader Gagik Tsarukyan filed lawsuits against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the country’s national television broadcaster.
The leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party is seeking a court order requiring Pashinyan to retract a series of statements made about him, The Caspian Post reports via DataLex.
Tsarukyan argues that the prime minister publicly described him as a spy and an agent, while also accusing him of participating in criminal schemes and exploiting the Armenian people. The opposition politician is seeking approximately $24,540 in compensation for moral damages.
In a separate lawsuit, Tsarukyan is targeting Armenia’s national television broadcaster over claims that his Prosperous Armenia Party was established at the direction of Armenian ex-president Robert Kocharyan.
The opposition leader is demanding a public retraction of those statements and is seeking roughly $32,500 in damages, in addition to reimbursement of legal expenses.
