Official: No Opposition in Armenia’s National Assembly

President of the Armenian National Assembly Alen Simonyan has stated that the Armenian Parliament currently has no opposition, with some individuals seeking roles in other political forces and the future parliament.

Simonyan made these remarks during a press briefing, The Caspian Post reports via Armenian media.

“There is no opposition in the National Assembly. I believe there is an extra-parliamentary opposition, and I hope most of members will participate in the upcoming elections. There are opposition politicians outside the parliament, and I hope they will enter the parliament so that we finally have an opposition presence,” he stated.

He added that the ruling Civil Contract party has a clear understanding of its position in the country, noting that the political movement of businessman and founder of the Tashir Group, Samvel Karapetyan, does not pose a serious challenge.

Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
