TRIPP Initiative May Shape Armenia’s Black Sea Internet Strategy

Armenia is exploring the possibility of aligning its planned Black Sea internet cable project with the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project.

“The project will enhance Armenia’s international communication infrastructure, increase network reliability, and create new opportunities for regional cooperation. Armenia could become a major regional hub for internet data transfer and transit flows if the project is implemented,” the Armenian Ministry of High-Tech Industry said, The Caspian Post informs via Armenian media.

Armenia first proposed the idea of laying an internet cable across the Black Sea in 2021 and has since conducted several rounds of negotiations with Georgian partners. According to 2023 data, the estimated cost of the project was 45 million euros.

Officials noted that the project’s implementation would strengthen Armenia’s cooperation with Russia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Middle Eastern countries, and Central Asia. It would also allow Armenia to receive international internet traffic from Europe via Türkiye and Georgia.

The development comes in the context of the August 8, 2025 Washington declaration, signed by the leader of Azerbaijan and the prime minister of Armenia in the presence of the US president. One of the seven points of the declaration involves the TRIPP project, which includes constructing a 42-kilometer section of the Zangezur Corridor across Armenian territory.
