By 2026, Somalia and Azerbaijan are set to establish a full visa-free travel regime.
Somalia’s non-resident ambassador to Azerbaijan, Fathudin Ali Mohamed, with a residence in Ankara, said that a visa-free regime is already in place for holders of diplomatic passports between the two nations, The Caspian Post informs via local media.
An agreement extending this privilege to service passport holders is expected to take effect in the coming months, with visa-free travel for ordinary passport holders planned by 2026.
Mohamed also announced that Azerbaijan will participate in energy projects jointly implemented by Türkiye and Somalia.
He further highlighted the growing cooperation in education, noting that 20 Somali students are currently studying at Azerbaijani universities on government scholarships. Plans are underway to launch faculty exchange programs and joint academic seminars.
During the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala, Azerbaijan, Uganda, and Somalia signed agreements to abolish visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports.
