Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York as Azerbaijan and China reaffirmed their growing strategic partnership and explored new opportunities for cooperation across trade, transport, energy and regional security.
During the talks, the Azerbaijani side thanked China for organizing the open debate at the United Nations Security Council on maintaining international peace and strengthening a UN-centered international system amid rising global challenges, The Caspian Post reports via Azertac.
The ministers welcomed the rapid development of bilateral ties, noting that the establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2025 marked a new chapter in Azerbaijan-China relations. They highlighted that agreements reached during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to China this year created broad opportunities for expanding cooperation in multiple sectors.
The sides discussed growing collaboration in trade, investment, transport and logistics, energy security, green energy, digital innovation, agriculture, education and humanitarian projects. Particular attention was given to joint initiatives linked to the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, which both countries described as strategically important for regional connectivity.
The ministers also emphasized that the mutual visa-free regime has strengthened people-to-people contacts, while expanding student exchanges, tourism and cultural programs is expected to deepen long-term ties between the two nations.
The Chinese side praised Azerbaijan for providing logistical and security support during the emergency evacuation of Chinese citizens from Iran, with Wang Yi expressing gratitude for Baku’s assistance.
The meeting also included discussions on regional security issues and cooperation within international organizations, including the United Nations, Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia and the Non-Aligned Movement.
The Azerbaijani side additionally welcomed China’s active participation in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum held in Baku earlier this month, describing it as an important contribution to multilateral urban cooperation.
