Russian Ambassador to Baku Mikhail Yevdokimov was summoned to Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, where a formal diplomatic note was presented to him.
During the meeting held on Friday, the Azerbaijani side conveyed a strong protest regarding statements made by Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots and a member of the ruling United Russia Party, concerning the conviction of Armenian citizens in Azerbaijan, The Caspian Post reports, citing the ministry.
A corresponding note reflecting Azerbaijan’s position was officially handed over to the Russian side.
Azerbaijan strongly condemned Zatulin’s long-standing statements that challenge the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, his open support for separatism, and his attempts to misrepresent court rulings. Particular criticism was directed at his use of unacceptable language regarding Armenian citizens convicted of crimes against peace and humanity, as well as war crimes committed during Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan.
During the talks, the Azerbaijani side urged Russia to take appropriate measures to put an end to what it described as the destructive activities of individuals such as Zatulin, stressing that such actions undermine peace and stability in the region and harm relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.
