Azerbaijan, Malaysia Move Closer to Visa-Free Travel as Tourism Ties Grow

Azerbaijani MP Vugar Bayramov has said that Azerbaijan and Malaysia are working toward introducing a visa-free travel regime, with progress on the initiative expected in the coming months.

Speaking at a meeting of Azerbaijan's tourism industry leaders, Bayramov, who heads the Azerbaijan-Malaysia interparliamentary friendship group in the parliament, said discussions held in Malaysia focused on expanding tourism cooperation and simplifying travel between the two countries, The Caspian Post reports via Report.

"Malaysia has significant tourism potential. At present, Malaysian citizens need a visa to visit Azerbaijan. Discussions have already taken place, and I believe a transition to a visa-free regime could become possible in the coming months, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already submitted the relevant memorandum," Bayramov said.

He added that easing visa requirements alone will not be enough to significantly increase visitor numbers from Asia. Expanding direct flight connections between Azerbaijan and Asian destinations will also be essential to boosting tourism and strengthening people-to-people ties.
