Malaysia’s ambassador to Azerbaijan Ahmad Kamrizamil Mohd Riza has said that Malaysian companies are showing strong interest in collaborating with Azerbaijan in the liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and renewable energy sectors.
Riza stated that Azerbaijan, as a key energy supplier and strategic regional player, plays a vital role in Europe’s energy security due to its advanced pipeline infrastructure, The Caspian Post informs via local media.
He highlighted that Malaysian companies, with extensive expertise in midstream infrastructure, gas processing technologies, storage systems, and related fields, are well-positioned to contribute to Azerbaijan’s energy sector.
The ambassador added that, to advance these partnerships, Azerbaijani companies are encouraged to engage with Malaysian enterprises at leading industry platforms, including the Oil & Gas Asia (OGA) 2025 exhibition in Kuala Lumpur.
Riza also pointed to opportunities through Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation’s (MATRADE) office in Istanbul, which acts as a key link for connecting Azerbaijani firms with Malaysian exporters and service providers.
He emphasized that proactive engagement on these platforms could unlock the full potential of mutually beneficial energy collaborations.
The ambassador further identified renewable energy as a promising area for cooperation.
He noted that Azerbaijan aimed to increase the share of ‘green energy’ in installed capacity from 21.3 per cent at the end of the previous year to 33.7 per cent by 2027, creating an attractive environment for investors and solution providers, and that wind and solar projects would both meet domestic demand and reinforce Azerbaijan’s role as a regional green energy hub.
Riza noted that Azerbaijan’s ambitious green agenda aligns well with Malaysia’s initiatives, including the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, Green Investment Strategy, Circular Economy Policy, and National Trade Plan 2030. These programs by Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) aim to promote innovation, skills development, and sustainable trade.
He concluded that such initiatives, combined with Malaysia’s focus on the circular economy and renewable energy expertise, could support Azerbaijan’s renewable energy development and create strong opportunities for bilateral collaboration.
