Uzbekistan and Malaysia maintain a friendly and cooperative relationship, established after Uzbekistan gained independence in 1991. Diplomatic relations were formally established in 1992, and both countries have since developed strong economic, cultural, and educational ties.
Trade and investment form a key pillar of bilateral relations, with Malaysia exporting machinery, electronics, and consumer goods to Uzbekistan, while Uzbekistan provides raw materials and agricultural products. Tourism and people-to-people exchanges have grown steadily, supported by visa facilitation and joint initiatives.
Education and cultural cooperation are also notable, with scholarships for Uzbek students to study in Malaysia, joint cultural programs, and exchanges highlighting the rich heritage of both nations.
In recent years, both countries have emphasized strengthening cooperation in tourism, digital economy, and trade, reflecting a shared interest in sustainable development and regional connectivity.
