Azerbaijan’s capital Baku is set to host the 67th Annual Meeting of the International Association of Judges (IAJ) from October 11 to 17, bringing together judicial experts from around the world.
Founded in 1953, the IAJ works to safeguard the independence of judicial authorities globally, uniting judges’ organizations from 93 countries, The Caspian Post informs via local media.
Its annual meetings are held only in countries that uphold the rule of law and judicial independence.
Baku’s event is expected to draw approximately 300 participants from 71 countries, including judges, representatives of international organizations, and prominent experts. The General Assembly will feature elections for the IAJ’s governing bodies and discussions on judicial and legal systems worldwide, addressing challenges, sharing best practices, and highlighting Azerbaijan’s own judicial framework.
The meeting will also host an international conference on the relationship between the judiciary and other branches of government, focusing on the role of courts in upholding the rule of law. A key highlight of the Assembly will be the election of the next IAJ president.
The decision to hold the 2025 General Assembly in Baku was made last year in Cape Town, South Africa, through a secret ballot of the organization’s members.
