At the invitation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Stirling Foundation, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board, has met with President Dallin H. Oaks, leader of the Church, during an official visit to the US.
In a meeting marked by mutual respect and interfaith dialogue, Sheikhulislam Pashazade offered heartfelt condolences on the passing of former Church President Russell M. Nelson and warmly congratulated President Oaks on his recent appointment as head of the Church, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
The discussion also addressed regional peace efforts, with Sheikhulislam Pashazade commending the US ongoing role in supporting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He specifically highlighted the August 8 Washington Summit as a key milestone and acknowledged the personal involvement of US President Donald Trump in promoting the peace process.
Expressing gratitude for international support to Azerbaijan, Pashazade thanked the Stirling Foundation for its significant financial and moral contributions to humanitarian projects, particularly the demining of territories recently liberated by Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, Sheikhulislam Pashazade formally invited President Oaks to visit Azerbaijan. President Oaks welcomed the invitation, describing the Sheikhulislam’s visit to Utah as a historic and meaningful moment for the Church. He expressed his appreciation for the letter of condolence and congratulations and shared his interest in making an official visit to Azerbaijan in the near future.
The meeting was also attended by Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center, and MP Javanshir Pashazade.
