Wang Huiyao, founder and president of the leading Chinese non-governmental think tank Center for China and Globalization, has said that China is considering the creation of an additional “Middle Corridor” to strengthen the existing Trans-Caspian transport route.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference during a panel discussion titled “Open Corridor Policy? Deepening Trans-Caspian Cooperation,” Wang said that while a new corridor would gradually gain momentum, existing routes would remain relevant and effective, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
“Perhaps we may even need another ‘Middle Corridor’ to reinforce the current one,” he noted, adding that he remains optimistic about the future. “Trade, economic ties, and tourism are all essential to sustaining development and prosperity.”
Wang also emphasized that expanding transport corridors could give a boost to tourism in China. He recalled a conversation with a European acquaintance who expressed interest in visiting China while traveling along different Silk Road routes. “That’s truly fascinating,” Wang said. “I believe such journeys will become more common in the future.”
