Delegates attending the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Azerbaijan's capital Baku have adopted the Baku Declaration, reaffirming their commitment to international law, multilateral cooperation, and collective action on global challenges.
The declaration was presented by Azerbaijani MP Jeyhun Mammadov during the closing proceedings of the conference, The Caspian Post reports via Report.
Participants reiterated their commitment to the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter and stressed the importance of strengthening interparliamentary cooperation, promoting shared values, fostering dialogue, and enhancing mutual understanding among OIC member states.
A key focus of the declaration was the growing concern over Islamophobia worldwide. Delegates strongly condemned all forms of violence motivated by religion or belief, as well as hate speech, intolerance, and extremism linked to religious discrimination.
The declaration called on the international community to take effective measures at both national and global levels to combat extremism, religious hatred, offensive attacks on faiths, negative stereotypes, and discrimination based on religion, beliefs, or ethnicity.
The document also highlighted the importance of pursuing a fair, sustainable, and mutually acceptable solution to the Cyprus issue through dialogue and diplomacy.
In addition, participants welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the US and Iran, expressing hope that its implementation would contribute to regional stability, international peace, and global security.
