Azerbaijan Funds Carpet Weaving Training Center in Afghanistan

On July 20, a Carpet Weaving Technical and Vocational Training Center for the Preservation and Enhancement of Traditional Afghan Handicrafts was inaugurated, with the participation of Ilham Mammadov, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Afghanistan.

The project, implemented with the financial support of the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA) operating under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as in partnership with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Representative Office in Afghanistan and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Afghanistan, aims to facilitate employment and preserve traditional Afghan handicrafts, The Caspian Post reports citing AZERTAC.

Addressing the event, Alhaj Mawlavi, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Afghanistan, expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan and the OIC on behalf of his country, emphasizing that the project would serve to preserve, promote and enhance Afghan handicrafts.

Mohammad Saeed Al-Ayash, Ambassador, OIC Representative in Afghanistan, said that the vocational center established with the support of the Azerbaijani side will support low-income Afghan families. He also mentioned that the project would contribute to strengthening solidarity among the OIC member countries.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Ilham Mammadov stated that Azerbaijan has already implemented several projects across Afghanistan, adding that such initiatives will continue in the future.

The training center, featuring four workshops and 20 carpet weaving looms, all necessary tools and a one-year supply of raw materials, is set to train 80 women simultaneously.
