Cat lovers could have the chance to live on a picturesque Greek island for free - as long as they're willing to spend a few hours each day caring for dozens of feline residents.
Animal welfare organization Syros Cats has announced it is looking for volunteers for 2027 to help care for rescued and stray cats on the Greek island of Syros, The Caspian Post reports via SyrosCats.com.
Successful applicants will receive free accommodation, breakfast, and utility costs covered while staying on the island in the Aegean Sea.
In exchange, volunteers are expected to dedicate around five hours a day, five days a week, to feeding, monitoring, and caring for the cats. Applications are scheduled to open in September.
The organization is seeking individuals or couples over the age of 25 who can stay on the island for at least one month and work independently. People with experience as veterinary assistants or those who have previously worked with stray cats are especially encouraged to apply, although passionate animal lovers without professional experience are also welcome.
While the position is unpaid, volunteers are free to enjoy island life outside their caregiving hours, effectively combining animal welfare work with an extended Mediterranean getaway.
Syros is often described as one of Greece's quieter and less crowded islands. Known for its charming architecture, scenic beaches, hidden coves, waterfront cafés, and relaxed atmosphere, the island offers a different experience from the country's more tourist-heavy destinations.
