China is preparing to build the world’s tallest spokeless Ferris wheel, a futuristic 228-meter attraction set to transform the skyline of Shanghai.
Dubbed the “Shanghai Arch,” the massive observation wheel will rise in the city’s Baoshan district near the Yangtze River Delta and the international Wusongkou cruise terminal. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026, The Caspian Post reports via Big Asia.
The project, valued at 2 billion yuan (around $293 million), is designed to blend with nearby landmarks and become a new architectural symbol for the city. Unlike traditional Ferris wheels with central spokes, the cabins on the Shanghai Arch will travel along the outer edge of a stationary ring using advanced engineering technology.
The current world record for a spokeless Ferris wheel belongs to the Bohai Eye in Shandong Province, which stands at 142.5 meters tall.
Developers say the Shanghai Arch is expected to become both a major tourist attraction and a groundbreaking engineering achievement, combining innovative design with urban integration while drawing millions of visitors each year.
