Kazakhstan, China Deepen Investment Ties with New Agreement

Kazakhstan and China are stepping up economic ties with a major move aimed at boosting investor confidence and expanding cross-border opportunities.

The Majilis (parliament) has ratified a new agreement with China on the promotion and mutual protection of investments, signaling a fresh phase in bilateral cooperation, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

The deal, signed during a high-level visit to Astana in June 2025, renews the long-standing 1992 treaty and introduces stronger safeguards for investors. Officials say it provides clear legal protections, including guarantees against expropriation, fair treatment, and access to international arbitration mechanisms.

Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Kuantyrov noted that the agreement will create more transparent and stable conditions for businesses, while strengthening trust between the two economies.

Economic figures already reflect growing momentum. In 2025 alone, foreign direct investment from China into Kazakhstan reached $2.8 billion - a sharp 135% increase year-on-year. Total Chinese investment over the past two decades has climbed to $29.3 billion.

Trade ties are also expanding rapidly. Bilateral turnover hit $34.1 billion in 2025, marking a 13.2% rise compared to the previous year.
