Georgia Launches State Diplomatic Academy to Train Future Foreign Service Leaders

Georgia has officially established a new state-run institution dedicated to training the country’s future diplomats, marking a significant step in strengthening its diplomatic corps and international engagement.

The Georgian government has approved the creation of the Diplomatic Academy, a new higher education institution that will operate under the supervision of the country's Foreign Ministry, The Caspian Post reports via Sputnik Georgia.

The Foreign Ministry will oversee the academy, while the foreign minister will be responsible for appointing its rector.

The academy will offer standard university programs, including a three-year bachelor's degree and a one-year master's degree. Students wishing to pursue doctoral studies will complete a two-year master's-level program before advancing further.

Admissions are set to begin in 2027 through Georgia’s Unified National Examinations system, with all tuition costs fully funded by the state.

In addition to degree programs, the Diplomatic Academy will provide a one-year professional training course designed to prepare graduates for careers in Georgia’s diplomatic service.

The initiative follows a proposal by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who argued that existing international relations programs at public and private universities were not adequately preparing future diplomats.
