Mojtaba Khamenei has been appointed as the new Supreme Leader of Iran.
The decision was made by Iran’s powerful Assembly of Experts, the clerical body responsible for selecting the country’s top authority, The Caspian Post reports via Iranian media.
The report claims that the move came under pressure from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which pushed for Mojtaba Khamenei’s appointment.
Mojtaba is the son of Iran’s long-serving Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. His elevation marks a historic and controversial moment for the Islamic Republic, as power appears to remain within the same family - a rare development in the country’s post-revolution political structure.
