At least 51 protesters, including nine children, have been killed during Iran’s ongoing nationwide protests, according to the Norway-based Iran Human Rights Organization, as authorities imposed a full internet blackout.
The confirmed deaths occurred over 13 days of protests that began on December 28 at Tehran’s Grand Bazaar over economic grievances and quickly spread nationwide, often featuring explicitly anti-regime slogans, The Caspian Post reports, citing Iran International.
The verified fatalities occurred across 11 provinces, with hundreds more injured. Only cases confirmed directly by the organization or through at least two independent sources are included in the official count.
Among the confirmed victims are nine minors under 18, though documentation of the exact ages of all child victims is still being gathered. The organization also reported unverified accounts of dozens more deaths in Tehran, Mashhad, Fardis in Karaj, and Hamedan, which are still under verification.
