The ongoing tensions surrounding Iran may put Türkiye’s regional exports and tourism revenues at serious risk, potentially threatening $38 billion in income.
Türkiye’s exports to Middle Eastern countries via Iran exceed $31 billion annually, while the region accounts for roughly $7 billion in tourism revenue. Early signs of disruption are already appearing, with orders from regional countries being canceled, The Caspian Post reports via a recent analysis by Turkish business daily Ekonomim.
The most severe disruptions have been observed in exports to Iran. Long queues have formed at border crossings, and the volume of goods waiting in regional warehouses for Iran is rising rapidly. Turkish authorities, however, have not officially reported truck delays at the Iranian border.
For context, Türkiye’s total exports in 2025 reached $273.4 billion, with tourism revenues totaling $65 billion. In a worst-case scenario, losses from the ongoing crisis could exceed 10% of Türkiye’s combined income from exports and tourism.
