Iranian security forces say they have dismantled three operational cells linked to terrorist groups and arrested nine militants who were attempting to enter the country.
The operation was carried out by personnel from Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence, Iranian security services said, according to Tasnim.
During an armed confrontation with security forces, three militants were killed, while another nine were arrested.
Iranian authorities said the detainees had received military and sabotage training abroad before attempting to enter the country.
Officials allege that the group was planning to destabilize the situation and carry out acts of sabotage in southern Iran.
Security forces reportedly seized weapons and ammunition from the suspects.
A weapons cache containing light and small arms that had been illegally smuggled into Iran was discovered.
