A Pakistani delegation led by Army Chief Asim Munir has arrived in Tehran to deliver a new message from Washington and discuss a possible second round of talks.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is also in the Iranian capital as part of ongoing mediation efforts aimed at easing tensions between Iran and the US, The Caspian Post reports, citing Al Jazeera.

Iran has confirmed that communication with the US has continued through Pakistan following an initial round of talks held over the weekend in Islamabad, which ended without a breakthrough.

The renewed diplomatic push comes amid optimistic remarks from US President Donald Trump, who said the world should expect an “amazing two days” as the conflict with Iran may be nearing an end. Trump also indicated that US negotiators could return to Pakistan, praising Munir for what he described as a “great job” in facilitating the dialogue.

At the same time, a fragile two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran remains in effect and is due to expire on April 22, adding urgency to the ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Mediators are currently working to bridge gaps on three key issues that derailed the previous round of negotiations: Iran’s nuclear programme, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and compensation for wartime damage inside Iran.
