A deadly attack shook southeastern Iran when armed assailants stormed a courthouse in the city of Zahedan, located in Sistan and Baluchestan province near the Pakistan border.
At least five people, including a woman and her newborn, were killed, and 13 others were injured, The Caspian Post reports, citing Iranian media.
Eyewitnesses report that the gunmen opened fire immediately after entering the courthouse, creating chaos before security forces arrived at the scene. In the ensuing firefight, three of the attackers were shot and killed by security personnel.
Emergency responders quickly evacuated the wounded and transported them to local hospitals. Iranian authorities have urged the public to avoid the area while investigations are ongoing.
Responsibility for the attack was claimed by Jaish al-Adl ("Army of Justice"), a Sunni militant group considered a terrorist organization by Iran. The group, founded in 2012 and believed to operate from Pakistani territory, adheres to Salafist ideology and has carried out numerous attacks against Iranian military and government targets in the past-particularly in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
