Iranian intelligence officers have arrested more than 140 participants in the recent unrest in the country.
The authorities of the southwestern province of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad announced that they had arrested and handed over to justice about 86 key participants and leaders of the unrest, who had desecrated public property, caused damage to business owners, and shot at security personnel, The Caspian Post reports, citing foreign media.
According to the report, intelligence agents also arrested three key participants of the unrest from other provinces who had fled to the mentioned province. Five firearms, a large quantity of ammunition, and dozens of Molotov cocktails were seized from the detainees, the report states.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Intelligence announced that 56 instigators of the unrest had been arrested in the northeastern province of North Khorasan based on public tips.
According to the statement, the detainees were involved in violent actions that led to the deaths of the local prosecutor, the deputy police chief, several law enforcement officers, and civilians.
The participants in the unrest attacked government buildings, stormed police stations to seize or steal weapons, and desecrated public objects.
Several firearms, explosives, cold weapons, and ammunition were seized from the unrest participants.
