Iranian Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri has announced that Iran and Pakistan plan to boost their agricultural trade turnover to $3 billion annually over the next two years.
Nouri made these remarks following his meeting in Tehran with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, The Caspian Post informs via local media.
Currently, agricultural trade between the two countries stands at approximately $1.4 billion per year. Iran’s exports to Pakistan total around $700 million annually, and officials aim to increase this figure to $1.5 billion in the coming years.
The two countries are collaborating on food security, agricultural research, climate change adaptation, and water scarcity management. Leveraging their geographic proximity, Iran and Pakistan are exploring joint operations to function as a regional food security hub.
Nouri also highlighted Pakistan’s willingness to supply a significant portion of Iran’s corn needs, a move welcomed by Tehran. In addition, Pakistan is looking to expand rice trade, with Iran prepared to meet the demand, reflecting the strong economic and friendly ties between the two nations.
